Today is the Dragon Boat Festival, and our family get up at five o clock and go up to the dew in accordance with custom. All the way, I put my hands to the eyes with my glittering dewdrops, and I felt as if my eyes were brighter. The eyes were so bright as they sat in the classroom that they could read anything.
After school, I spread my legs and ran home. As soon as I got to the door, I could smell zongzi, and as soon as I entered the door, I saw my father make a table for me to come home to eat. I had washed at the table, give mom and dad one solution for a zongzi, sprinkle with sugar, then give my own solution to a beautiful triangle zongzi, sprinkle with sugar to eat with relish. At the dinner table, we eat and talk, the room is filled with the happy atmosphere of the Dragon Boat Festival, the smell of zongzi and the aroma of incense.

The fifth day of may is the traditional Chinese festival of Dragon Boat Festival. The Dragon Boat Festival is also known as the fifth, May Day, the afternoon festival, the dragon festival, the poets day, the festival of the festival, the childrens day and the loran festival.
The main customs of the Dragon Boat Festival are: eating zongzi, racing dragon boat RACES, daughters returning to the home, combat, hitting, swinging and eating salted eggs.

When making zongzi, they can have different shapes such as triangles, circles, squares and rectangles. They are salty, sweet and peanut.

At the end of the Zhou Dynasty, the area we now know as China had fallen into a state of fragmentation and conflict. While the Zhou dynasty had ruled for several centuries, several other states, originally feudal domains, tried to carve out their own kingdoms. The state of Qin would eventually emerge the victor and unify all of China under one rule for the first time in history.
Qu Yuan served as minister to the Zhou Emperor. A wise and articulate man, he was loved by the common people. He did much to fight against the rampant corruption that plagued the court-- thereby earning the envy and fear of other officials. Therefore, when he urged the emperor to avoid conflict with the Qin Kingdom, the officials pressured the Emperor to have him removed from service. In exile, he traveled, taught and wrote for several years. Hearing that the Zhou had been defeated by the Qin, he fell into despair and threw himself into the Milou River. His last poem reads:
Many a heavy sigh I have in my despair,Grieving that I was born in such an unlucky time.I yoked a team of jade dragons to a phoenix chariot,And waited for the wind to come,to sour up on my journey
As he was so loved by the people, fishermen rushed out in long boats, beating drums to scare the fish away, and throwing zong zi into the water to feed braver fish so that they would not eat Qu Yuan's body.
The Modern Dragon Boat Festival started from that time to this day, people commemorated Qu Yuan through Dragon Boat Races, eating zong zi, and several other activities, on the anniversary of his death: the fifth day of the fifth lunar month.
Dragon Boat races are the most exciting part of the festival, drawing crowds of spectators. Dragon Boats are generally brightly painted and decorated canoes. Ranging anywhere from 40 to 100 feet in length, their heads are shaped like open-mouthed dragons, while the sterns end with a scaly tail. Depending on the length, up to 80 rowers can power the boat. A drummer and flag-catcher stand at the front of the boat. Before a dragon boat enters competition, it must be "brought to life" by painting the eyes in a sacred ceremony. Races can have any number of boats competing, with the winner being the first team to grab a flag at the end of the course. Annual races take place all over China, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and other overseas Chinese communities.

The Dragon Boat Festival is one of the most popular traditional festivals celebrated in China, which is on the fifth of the fifth lunar month, also known as Duanwu Festival. It’s said that it is to commemorate the death of a Chinese patriotic poet, Qu Yuan, who was snared by corrupt officials in ancient China and finally committed sui-cide by drowning himself in the Miluo River to protest against them.
The traditions and customs held on this festival differ from place to place, but there are some common in them. First, the most famous and great tradition is holding Dragon Boat races, which are held by fishermen’s attempt to protect Qu Yuan’s body against attacking by fishes and other animals in the river by beating drums and row the dragon shaped boat. Nowadays dragon boat races have been an annual popular sport activity among people. In addition, making and eating Zongzi—a dumpling made of glutinous rice and wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves—is also a popular custom during this day. It can be made by many kinds of stuffing. What’s more, hanging herbs on the front door, drinking realgar wine and pasting up picture of Zhongkui—a mythic guardian figure in ancient china—are also popular during the festival, which are mean to protect people from evil and disease.
These customs and traditions have been changed a little in recent years, but they still make contribution to the spread and inheritance of Chinese culture.
