Xiamen is a major city on the southeast coast of the People's Republic of China.It is administered as a sub-provincial city of Fujian province .

The local vernacular is Amoy,a dialect of Southern Min,also called Hokkien.Amoy is widely used and understood across the southern region of Fujian province as well as overseas.While it is widely spoken in and around Xiamen,the Amoy dialect has no official status,and the official language of all government business is Mandarin.

Xiamen and its surrounding countryside is known for its scenery and tree-lined beaches.Gulangyu,also known as Piano Island,is a popular weekend getaway with views of the city and features many Victorian-era style European edifices.Xiamen's Botanical Garden is a nature lover's paradise.The Buddhist Nanputuo Temple,dating back to the Tang Dynasty,is a national treasure.Xiamen is also famous for its history as a frontline in the Chinese Civil War with Taiwan over Jinmen (also known as Jinmen or Quemoy) 50 years ago.One attraction for tourists is to view Kinmen,a group of islands a few kilometres away and under Taiwanese control,from Xiamen island.

The port connects with many cities at home and abroad. In addition, there is train station and airport. They contribute a well-developed transportation system. Guangzhou is also an international city. Many foreign companies locate here and many foreigners visit here. The 16th Asian Games were held in Guangzhou. It was the second time that the Asian Games were held in China.

My hometown lies on the Plain of North China. The famous Grand Canal of China is to the east of our village. This is the place where my forefathers have lived for generations. When I was a boy I often played with other children near the bank of the canal. I watched the passing boats, and I wished to travel all over the world.

我的家乡位于华北平原。中国著名的京杭大运河是我们村庄的东边。这是我的祖先们世世代代居住的地方。当我还是个小孩时,我经常和别的孩子在运河的岸边上玩耍。我看着过往的船只,我想环游世界。

There are about 800 people in our village. A pond, teeming with fish, lies in front of the village. I used to swim there in summer and skate in winter. It was in this pond that I spent the happiest days of my childhood.

To the north of our village are great fields. When spring comes, the crops begin to grow, turning the fields green. When crops turn yellow in autumn, the peasants start to harvest them.

Two roads cross in front of our village. On summer evenings, people sit under the trees enjoying the cool breeze. The houses in our village are well laid out.

By the end of last year, 35 students in our village had graduated from senior middle school, and 12 students were enrolled at colleges.

The population of Guangzhou is about seven million two hundred thousand .Guangzhou is a good place to visit. In Guangzhou, there are many beautiful parks, museums, temples, etc.There are also many interesting places such as White Cloud Mountain, Yuexiu Park, the long grand amusement park and so on. So many people like going to visit Guangzhou.

An other reason people like to visit Guangzhou is it has convenient traffic. No matter wherever you go , the public transit is very convenient, there are subways, a bad one of only feeling is that there were too many people while taking the bus.And you can eat many famous and delicious foods in Guangzhou, dimsum is the most delicious food I think. Guangzhou has a long history of about two thousand one hundred years. I like Guangzhou very much.
