教材不断更新，教法不断改革，中国的英语学习者从最初的资源匮乏，一书难求到今天的信息爆炸，却好书难求。客观的学习环境似乎在飞速往前发展，但学习者在学习的过程中碰到的问题和困惑却像是拔不掉的蛀牙，还是那么疼，还是那几颗。

英语学习从过程上来讲大致也就是：输入、输出这两个过程。若按正常的逻辑，输入的信息经过理解、整理、分类、排列组合所产生的输出量实际上应该是大于输入量的(当然不可忽视的是我们现在谈到的是外语这种特殊的输入源，因此还不得不考虑文化差异所导致的思维方式上的差异给输出造成的巨大困难)。而现实的则是大多数我所接触过的英语学习者都有一个相同的问题，那就是输入的能力(阅读能力)远远高于输出的能力(写作能力)。

造成这个结果的因素颇多：有些朋友大量阅读，却没有积累;有些朋友有所积累，却不加思考;而这个结果的表现形式也各式各样：文章内容贫乏、连贯性差、语言干瘪、中式英语表达。本文仅仅就一个方面的因素和一种形式的结果展开讨论，并给出一种建设性的解决方案，广大学习者参考。

有学生经常感叹写作时文思枯竭，就算是生挤出来聊聊数语也是句式单一，而且总是以简单句为主。无奈之中难掩对于写作长句的渴望。其实我经常跟学生讲，抱怨、嗟叹都不解决问题，好的素材其实就在手边，关键是看你能不能真正做到“如切如磋，如琢如磨”。比如新概念英语第三册全册六十篇文章，文章内容涉及广泛，句式丰富多变，各种长句形式层出不穷。仔细研习新概念英语三册实在是解决这一问题的一个不错的方法。

比方说写人的时候，我们常常为了立体全面的介绍一个人而大费周章连续使用两个，三个甚至是四个句子来介绍。这样一来不仅笔墨费尽，而且还往往吃力不讨好。试比较一下两组不同的写法：

1. William Shakespeare is British. He was considered to be one of the greatest writers in England. He was famous for his plays.

2. William Shakespeare, a British, who was considered to be one of the greatest writers in England, was famous for his plays.

通过对比大家会发现两点：

一、第二种写法的质量明显更高，它满足了我们在写作中对长句的需求。

二、这两组句子在内容上没有任何区别，区别的仅仅是形式。

但是同时大家也会思考：这只是一个例子，是否具有普遍性或者普遍意义?答案是肯定的。首先，这个句子的普遍性在于这个句子的本身的作用。它本身的形式可以放在任何一篇写人记事的文章开头，也可以放在任何一篇议论文中引入例子的时候用于介绍例子当中的主要人物的背景。在新概念英语三册中就可以找到不少的这样的句子的范本，比如：

【Lesson17, NCEIII】Verrazano, an Italian about whom little is known, sailed into New York Harbor in 1524 and named it Angouleme.

【Lesson24, NCEIII】… the heroine, a dear old lady, who had always been so kind to everybody, had, in her youth, poisoned every one of her five husbands.

试比较：

1.Verrazano was an Italian. Little is known about him. He sailed into New York Harbor in 1524 and named it Angouleme.

2.The heroine was a dear old lady. She had always been so kind to everybody. She had, in her youth, poisoned every one of her five husbands.

经过以上的分析之后，相信剩下的问题就只剩下一个：面对这样的句子我们应该如何去操作呢?操作的部分分两步：长句都是由短句合并而来，所以我们首先需要对简单的短句进行分析，然后再选择合适的语法手段将之合并。通过分析不难发现，这三个短句所讨论的都是同一主体。这时候就可以使用各种可以做后置修饰或补充说明的语法手段将三个短句有机的结合起来。这些语法手段中包括了：分词作后置定语，不定式做后置定语，同位语等等。所以根据以上例句进行简单总结，并将之抽象化，我们得出一种介绍人物时可以使用的一种不错的长句句型模板：

主语 + 【同位语 + 定语从句】 + 谓语 + (其他：宾语/表语/状语等)

其中：

① 主语：人物名字

② 同位语：名词或名词性的短语，表示人物的国籍、性别、职业、特长等信息

③ 定语从句：详细阐述一个人每一方面的特征

④ 剩余主句部分：该人物跟本文主题最相关的一个特征。

该用法最终甚至还可以从介绍人物这样一个范围推广到介绍任何一个具体的事物，比如09年6月份的大学英语四级考试题目：该考题要求考生讨论的是大学校园的recreational activities (课外活动)，必须包含以下内容：

1、多种多样

2、有益 也可能有危害性

3、作为大学生的看法

不管具体内容如何最开始我们都需要介绍主题：recreational activities，这时也可以使用和介绍人物同样的模板：

1.Recreational activities are things that we do to occupy our spare time. Recreational activities include various different forms. Recreational activities are considered to be both beneficial and vain.

2.Recreational activities, things that we do to occupy our spare time, which include various different forms, are considered to be both beneficial and vain.

跟之前几组例子一样，短句的堆砌显得冗长，而运用了模板以后的例句会更加的紧凑，丰满，句子内部成分长短结合，错落有致。

Complaints & Claims 抱怨和索赔信函

抱怨、索赔信函的目的是为了获取更好的服务，对已出现的问题求得尽快的、妥善的解决。它通常是买方由于对收到的货物不满而书写，如：货物未按时到达;货物虽抵达，但与订单所载不同;货物有损毁现象;货物数量短缺或多余;货物质量与样品不符;服务不合理以及收费过高等，这些均是抱怨、索赔的正当理由。

书写抱怨、索赔信函时，不妨开门见山出原先双方同意的条件，然后列举事实以表示有何不满，以及为什么不满，最后提出解决的方法。内容应明确、清楚、有理，语气要简洁、坚决。避免使用愤怒和使对方过于难堪的措辞(除非你所抱怨的问题反复发生，且多次投诉而毫无结果)。

For Delay in Shipment (由于发货延迟而抱怨)

Dear Sirs ,

The furniture we ordered from you should have reached us a week ago .Needless to say , the delay in delivery has put us to great inconvenience .It is therefore imperative that you dispatch them immediately .Otherwise we shall be obliged to cancel the order and obtain the goods elsewhere.
