Midday / Noon

“Midday” means the middle of the day, also called “NOON” ( Twelve o’clock at noon).

一日的一半，也就是正午时分，叫作 Midday或者noon。例子：

We usually have a simple meal at midday.

By midday, the boss has made many meetings.(By midday 为什么使用by呢?这里指的是 “直到12点为止，boss已经做了许多的事”，所以by midday指的是截至一个时间段前，而不是指某一个时间点。)

Morning

“Morning” means the beginning of the day ( From dawn to midday or from midnight to noon)

早上

正确来说午夜12点后直到正午前，都被归类为 Morning。例子：

It is three o'clock in the morning.(这里指的是凌晨3点)

Afternoon

“Afternoon” is the time which starts at twelve o’clock and ends when the sun goes down. ( From noon until evening and from 12:00 hours to approximately 18:00 hours.)

下午

从正午12点直到日落的这段时间。例子：

The rain continued to fall all afternoon.

I spent the afternoon snug and warm in bed.

Evening

“Evening” is the part of the day between the end of the afternoon and night. ( From sunset to bedtime and from approximately 18:00 hours to 00:00 hours).

晚上

从日落到午夜12点前这段时间。例子：

In the evenings, I like to read a book.

The rain will continue into the evening. (这里的continue into 指一直延续到夜晚;有些小伙伴会有疑问，夜晚不是night吗?)

Night

“Night” is the time when there is an actual darkness after sunset and before sunrise.

night指的是当夜幕降临，日落后，日出前这个时间段。所以它会覆盖到midnight和morning。因此，good evening 和 good night 用法是不同的!注意了!记住这个分辨用法，迷惘的小伙伴可以这么理解。前者可以用作晚上打招呼，后者就是用来祝好眠。例子：

An owl is the king of the night.

It will get worse at night.

Dawn

“Dawn” is the time when light from the sun begins to appear in the sky before sunrise. This is the time when the sun rises or comes up (sunrise).

破晓之时，太阳升起之前。

例子：

He always got up to greet the dawn.

He works from dawn till dusk.(from dawn till dusk 从早到晚，有点起早贪黑的含义。写作的伙伴必须把这句熟记起来，可以摈弃掉 from morning to night这种比较中式英文思维的英语。)

Dusk / Twilight

“Dusk / Twilight” is the time when there is a partial darkness between day and night. It means it is just before it becomes completely dark in the evening.

黄昏之时，描述天还没完全黑之前。

例子：

The sky and the sun appear red at dusk.

Dusk was falling as we drove home.

Sunrise / Sunup

“Sunrise” is the time in the morning when the sun starts to rise in the sky.

日出;Sunup 较常出现在美式英语里。

例子：

We got up early to behold the sunrise.

At sunrise, the sun looks like a cake.

Sunset

“Sunset” is the time in the evening when the sun disappears.
